Wedding bells are still ringing for same-sex couples in New York State, despite efforts by one conservative group to overturn the new marriage equality law.
New Yorkers for Constitutional Freedoms filed a lawsuit today in state court, claiming state lawmakers didn’t follow proper procedures to get the bill passed. It accuses the State Senate of violating its open meetings law and illegally shutting out the public in closing the Senate lobby.
A spokesman for Governor Andrew Cuomo said “the suit is without merit.”
Hundreds of couples have gotten married since yesterday, on the first day the law went into effect. New York became the sixth and largest state to recognize same-sex marriage. Check out our mini-wedding album of some of the happy couples below.
