How do we make our communities stronger, safer, smarter, in the face of budget cuts, privatization, and the threat of violence? msnbc host Melissa Harris-Perry talked with her guests about these issues and more on Saturday’s show, but before she got into details, Harris-Perry took some time to dissect the root causes of the debate over her “Lean Forward” ad. What’s it all about, really?
“This isn’t about me wanting to take your kids, and this isn’t even about whether children are property,” said Harris-Perry. “This is about whether we as a society, expressing our collective will through our public institutions, including our government, have a right to impinge on individual freedoms in order to advance a common good. And that is exactly the fight that we have been having for a couple hundred years.”
Watch Melissa’s full response from Saturday’s show and tune in on Sunday from 10 a.m.-12 p.m. ET for another episode of Melissa Harris-Perry.
