Wednesday on Jansing & Co. we’ll discuss President Barack Obama’s interview with Jay Leno on the Tonight Show. The president answered questions for the first time about the terror threat that has shuttered almost two dozen diplomatic posts across the Middle East. He told Leno that the threat was significant but urged Americans to continue to “live their lives.” He also addressed the NSA’s surveillance programs saying “we don’t have a domestic spy program.” Senator Jeff Merkley, D-Ore., will join Jansing & Co. with his reaction to President Obama’s comments.
After Tuesday’s primary showdown, the race for Detroit’s mayoral seat is now down to two people. In November, voters will choose either Wayne County Sheriff Benny Napoleon or former Detroit Medical Center CEO Mike Duggan for a position that doesn’t seem to hold much power now that the city is under state control. Thomas Sugrue, author of “The Origins of Urban Crisis: Race and Inequality in Postwar Detroit” will give Jansing & Co. his take on the race for mayor in the struggling city.
The federal budget cuts that went into effect earlier this year as part of sequestration have decimated funding for the federal public defenders program. Many are arguing that these cuts put the program’s existence in jeopardy. msnbc’s new series Presumed Guilty addresses this issue and other problems within our nation’s justice system. msnbc’s Ari Melber, the NAACP’s Vincent Southerland and Federal Public Defender A.J. Kramer will discuss these issues.
And some notable celebrities are making their debuts in the hip-hop industry: The NFL’s Manning brothers debuted their first hip-hop video in a DirecTV ad and “Late Night” host Jimmy Fallon debuted a video of news clips edited together so that NBC’s own Brian Williams raps Young M.C.’s classic hit “Bust a Move.” A must-see!
