For the first time in nearly two decades, the federal government has descended into a partial government shutdown after lawmakers on Monday night failed to pass a spending bill.
While essential government services will remain open, a variety of government services, agencies and national landmarks remain closed. Not to mention, 800,000 Americans will go without pay until Congress can hammer out a solution. From national parks and museums, to veterans services call centers, to NASA—the government shutdown is already taking shape.
The shutdown was seen immediately on Tuesday across the country as the National Park Service closed more than 400 national parks and museums. That includes national treasures like the Minute Man National Park near Boston, all of the monuments in Washington, D.C., the Martin Luther King Jr. National Historic Site in Atlanta, and more.
