If one thing is certain when it comes to Syria, it’s that almost nothing is certain. What is our intended outcome? What is our strategy? What are the possible repercussions of US action? Who do we support? Where is Syria?! These questions and undoubtedly many others are being asked by constituents and Members of Congress alike as the situation in Syria becomes more and more convoluted. On Saturday’s Melissa Harris-Perry, we’ll get into what we do–and perhaps more to the point, what we don’t–know when it comes to Syria.
Protestors from the labor group OUR Walmart demonstrated outside the office of Christopher Williams, an investment banker and member of the Walmart board of directors, on Thursday. The goal of the protest, held in Manhattan, was to deliver a petition to Williams demanding an annual minimum wage of $25,000 and for Walmart to cease alleged retaliation against strikers. OUR Walmart held protests in 11 others cities as well in an effort to display national unity on behalf of the workers. Walmart is pushing back, saying these protests were media stunts manufactured by organized labor with practically no participation by the 1.3 million Walmart employees. So are these demonstrations irrelevant ants on an elephant or the early stages of a retail revolution?
Bill Clinton, President Obama’s honorary “Secretary of Explaining Stuff” resumed his post on Wednesday addressing a crowd in Arkansas to explain the details of Obamacare. The Affordable Care Act officially became law more than three years ago. However, according to the Kaiser Family Foundation poll, more than four in ten Americans were under the impression that the law had been repealed. And since President Clinton can’t make housecalls to all of the uninsured, President Obama’s administration has funded various “navigators” to help explain the ACA to those who are uninsured. And shock of all shocks, House Republicans have a way to block that effort too.
